Course Description
The Business of Digital Distribution is a series of three seminars that will offer pathways for screen producers through the maze of digital devices, distribution platforms and business models. Each seminar can be attended separately.

Presenter – Jason Romney
Jason has recently been appointed National Manager, Commercial Strategy for Telstra. He has published widely about media, technology and entertainment issues, including the new media issues website http://www.netvideo.com.au and Law On The Line. He previously practiced as a Melbourne barrister with a particular focus on media and technology-related commercial litigation. He was the founder and chief executive of one of Australia’s pioneering interactive content creation and broadcast technology specialists, itvworld.com.
Fiona Patten, Eros Foundation
Fiona Patten established the Eros Foundation in 1992 to encourage understanding of the adult industry and to promote the rights of those working in and around the adult industry. Fiona consults to the adult industry in Australia and the US, especially in the area of establishing on-line businesses.
John Karantzis, Reeltime
John has been involved in digital media for many years, including digital TV broadcasting in Singapore and the rollout of Video on Demand and content delivery systems in Malaysia. He has been Director of Movies On-line Ltd, a Perth company specialising in content delivery and operations and is the founder of Reeltime Entertainment, a company specialising in on-line digital distribution of screen content.
Martyn Reeves, Maven
Martyn Reeves is Regional Director, Asia/Pac for Maven Networks. A linguist by education, he has held many senior roles in the software industry both here and in Europe over the last 25 years. He has specialised in starting up international operations for such diverse companies as Progress Software, Oberon, NetGenesis and Automatos.
Gary Hayes, Interactive Producer and Director
Gary was a Senior Producer and Development Manager at the BBC New Media from 1995-04, developing many firsts across the internet, interactive TV and other emerging platforms. He is also a consultant in the UK and the US and currently works as permanent director of the Laboratory for Advanced Media Production (LAMP) at AFTRS - http://www.lamp.edu.au/ . He also runs a very popular media research blog at http://www.personalizemedia.com.
Christy Dena, Transmedia Storyteller
Christy is a leading practitioner and researcher in cross-media narrative, new media types and their creative application in emerging media. She runs a popular research blog, www.cross-mediaentertainment.com.
Peter Giles, AFTRS Head of Digital Media
Peter has established Australia's leading professional programs in visual effects, computer animation and emerging media. The department has produced projects that have won awards at SIGGRAPH, AFI, Ars Electronica and the British and US academy awards.
Chris Flintoft, Director, Wireless and Broadcast, Hyro
Hyro is a company that works at the frontline in developing online services including building the first financial services websites in Australia, the first online catalogue (for Dick Smith in 1995) and putting the first credit card transactions on the web in Australia. Keren Flavell, Digital Media Producer
Keren is an award winning producer and consultant with 12 years experience in interactive media production, documentary, radio and print. She won the Gold Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival for the ABC/Film Victoria project Sounds Like Techno and has produced online documentaries for the dance company Chunky Move and SBS. Keren has also produced websites for BMG, Universal Music and Sanity.
Peter L. Higgs, Project Manager, Digital Creative Industries National Mapping Project, ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries & Innovation (CCI), QUT
Peter is recognised as one of the pioneers in Australia's interactive digital and creative media, IP rights management and commercialisation. He spent six years with Apple Computer as Third Party Marketing Manager working closely with software developers and creative talent on the impact of computer technology on their craft and business practices. He has researched and written reports for a broad range of organisations including the SPAA/ASDA Documentary Council, Commonwealth Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA) and AIMIA.
